A Weekend of Firsts

Congratulations to Savannah Richards and Vida Torres, who are the first girls to represent Pottstown at the first PIAA state championship girls wrestling tournament. They both won their first state championship matches. Savannah placed seventh, making her the first Pottstown girl to earn a state medal. On her path to winning a medal she won three matches. Two of her victories came in thrilling down to the last second overtime wins. She was not only the first Pottstown girl wrestler to earn a state medal, but also the first wrestler representing the Pioneer Athletic Conference. Vida Torres ended her tournament and high school career with a 1-2 record at the state tournament. These young student athletes were part of a pioneer movement in our district and state that resulted in the PIAA state championships. They will have lasting memories of their experience. They have helped pioneer a movement that will make a positive difference in many lives. They are proof that hard work pays off and another reason to say,proud to be from Pottstown.
